However, it is rich in caffeine, a cup of black tea may carry half the amount of caffeine that a cup of coffee carries. Caffeine is not good for people who have high blood pressure and a fast heart rate. A study by Dr Ahmed El-Sohemy from University of Canada shows that diterpenes present in caffeine appear to increase the risk of coronary heart disease.
Oolong tea is a semi-oxidised tea that may reduce blood pressure and cholesterol levels. However, it is not advised to be consumed by people who are taking blood thinners for the heart. Dr John Day, a cardiologist based in USA advises that one should talk to their doctor if they plan to drink oolong tea, especially if they take a blood thinner like Coumadin.

One can never go wrong with green tea. Not only does it support weight loss, but it has also added health benefits that support the heart. Green tea helps lowers LDL, bad cholesterol, and triglycerides. According to a study by Dr Yuji Naito in the Journal of Cardiovascular Pharmacology, the powerful antioxidants in green tea help prevents clogging of the arteries.
According to a Delhi-based nutritionist and wellness expert, Anshul Jaibharat, chamomile can help you sleep better. A well-rested body means a healthy heart. Another added benefit is that it may help control blood sugar, a spike in blood sugar levels can be very bad for your heart. A study published in the Journal of Endocrinological Investigations says that drinking chamomile tea helped participants lower their blood sugar.
