Turnip Fries 2019

Turnip Fries 2019

1 4

Two things we love: 1) Turning other into fries and 2) Baking them in the oven instead of, well, frying them. This recipe for turnip fries ticks both those boxes. They’re healthier and just as tasty.

  1. ¼ cup extra-virgin , divided
  2. 4 medium turnips, peeled
  3. 2 teaspoons Old Bay
  4. 1 teaspoon garlic powder

Salt and freshly ground black pepper, as needed

1. Preheat the oven to 400°F. Grease a baking sheet with half of the olive oil.

2. Trim the ends from the turnips. Cut each in half widthwise. Cut in half again, and then cut each piece into 2 wedges (you’ll get about 8 wedges per turnip).

3. In a large bowl, toss the turnips with the remaining olive oil. Season with the Old Bay, garlic powder, salt and pepper, and toss to combine.

4. Arrange the turnips onto the baking sheet in an even layer. Transfer to the oven and roast until the turnips begin to turn golden brown, 15 to 17 minutes.

5. Remove the baking sheet from the oven and flip the turnips so they roast on both sides. Return the sheet to the oven and roast the turnips until very golden, 15 to 20 minutes more. Serve immediately.
