The perfect juicy burger was not always easy to find in Chennai. That changed with the likes of Double Roti. Flipside brings the all-American smashed burgers. The patties here are smashed with a burger press into a thin patty with the perfect browning on the outside and retaining the patty’s juiciness. They also offer a ‘Skinny’ version for folks obsessed with calories that trades the burger buns for lettuce
Bava Street, Alwarpet
It might be a little longer before you can do a food crawl through your favourite food streets in Asia, but you can still experience a Bangkok-style market in Chennai or get the food home delivered. Night Mrkt will transport you to a vibrant market in Bangkok or Hanoi with its casual vibe – they also have those drinks in plastic sachets, and great mix of food stalls. Their Thai red curry, dim sums and the Korean style chicken are among the signature dishes here.
Khader Nawaz Khan Road
A traditional delicatessen with the finest meats, cheese and imported food products, Mediumrare also offers a finely curated menu of Western-style mains that travel well. Regulars swear by their classic roasted leg of lamb served with black pepper sauce or the British style fish and chips. Aside from their roasts – the Jamaican Jerk chicken roast is a favourite, their pies (like the lamb and onion pie) are worth checking out too.
St Mary’s Road, Alwarpet
4.The Fat Boy:
Among my favourite spots for pizza in Chennai, the Fat Boy’s large range of wood-fired Neapolitan pizzas are complemented by their refreshing lemonades. The cleverly named pizzas play on the Fat Boy. I’m usually a smoky boy – mozzarella, chilli chorizo, blue cheese and jalapeno come together really well in this signature pizza. Vegetarians swear by Jazzy Boy that combines three types of cheese – mozzarella, cheddar and parmesan, with mushroom, sundried tomato, rocket leaves and truffle oil.
5.Delish – The Dessert Studio:
Chennai’s newest dessert studio is just what you need for a weekend dessert binge. Delish offers an eclectic assortment of desserts and bonbons (pack of 6). I particularly enjoyed their pistachio mousse with layers of strawberry compote, pistachio panna cotta on a lemon sponge. The menu also includes their sinful tarts including Snicker’d, their take on a Snickers barn and the classic Opera cake.

6.The Park, Chennai:
It has the perfect fix for a lazy weekend or a frenetic WFH day when you grab breakfast at lunch time. 601, the hotel’s all-day diner introduced an all-day breakfast menu that’s become a popular delivery option. The peanut butter and banana yoghurt, topped with cranberry granola, fresh seasonal fruits and pumpkin seeds is our pick. The hotel can also drop off a weekend brunch (in family friendly packs for 2/4 adults) in themed brunch boxes in a wide array of cuisines from Japanese to Thai to Mediterranean.
7.The Westin Chennai Velachery:
The hotel’s Mood Diet 2.0 is an interesting amalgam of vegan and sustainable dishes drawn from across India and is available via Marriott Bonvoy on Wheels. There’s a Tangra Box that celebrates the best of Kolkata’s Chinese cuisine connection, but our favourite is the Southern Bliss box with a foxtail millet upma and a bisi bele bath with amaranth.
8.Kai From The Sea:
A seafood lover’s paradise, Kai, located on East coast road is a fresh fish shop, an intimate dining space and a grab and go spot. The menu rounds up some of our favourite seafood dishes from all over the world. From a Peruvian-style Ceviche to Mangalore’s iconic ghee roast prawns, it’s all in the mix. There’s also room for a few vegetarian and meat dishes but it’s the seafood that takes centrestage in their delivery menu.
East Coast Road, Uthandi
The Italian Burrata salad with arugula, slow roasted tomato and a caper mustard dressing has to be one of the most delish salads I’ve tried in Chennai. There are not too many places in Chennai where you can grab a salad that doesn’t fit into the menu like an afterthought. Butterheads is set up as a delivery or grab and go spot that adds fun back into salads with a whole bunch of smoothies to go with them.
